UQ Wifi
Enter your UQ account username and password. If you're a:
- student, your username starts with an ‘s’

Use a modified version of your UQ account username with your usual UQ account password to connect to Eduroam.
Enter your:

Steps may be slightly different on your screen, depending on the version of Android you are using and your device.
Step 1: Select a wifi network
Go to your wifi settings and select the network you want to connect to.
Step 2: Enter your username and password
UQ Wifi
Enter your UQ account username and password. If you're a:
- student, your username starts with an ‘s’

- UQ account password.
If you're a visiting student or staff member from another university, use the same Eduroam login details as you normally use at your own institution. For example, QUT students should use username@qut.edu.au.
Step 3: Check additional settings
Android 8, 9 or 10
If you're using Android 8 (Oreo), Android 9 (Pie) or Android 10, check your settings match these:
- EAP Method: PEAP
- Phase 2 authentication: MSCHAPV2
- CA certificate: Do not validate
- Domain: uq.edu.au
Android 11
If you're using Android 11, you might need to connect to eduroam using the 'geteduroam' app, especially if you use a Google Pixel 3 or Samsung Galaxy S20.
Android 11 no longer lets you connect to a wifi network without validating a certificate. The 'geteduroam' app sets up the required certificate for you to connect.
- Download 'geteduroam' from the Google Play Store.
- Open the app, search for The University of Queensland, then select it.
- Tap 'Next'.
- Enter your:
- UQ account username in the format username@uq.edu.au
- UQ account password.
- Select 'Connect to network'.
Eduroam will now connect on your device.
Android 12 or 13
If you're using Android 12 (Snow Cone) or Android 13 (Tiramisu) check your settings match these:
- EAP Method: PEAP
- CA certificate: Don't validate
Step 4: Verify and accept a new certificate
The first time you connect or after replacement, you may be asked to verify and accept a certificate. This will be named:
- 'uq.edu.au' if you’re connecting to UQ Wifi
- 'eduroam.uq.edu.au' if you’re connecting to eduroam.
Continue to accept the certificate.
UQ's Wifi certificates are renewed yearly, at which time you will be asked to verify a new certificate.
These instructions are specific to Ubuntu 20.04 LTS though may applicable to other Linux distributions.
Step 1: Select a Wi-Fi network
- Select the 'Network' icon at the top right of the Ubuntu interface to access the Wi-FI settings. These settings can also be accessed by selecting the 'Show Applications' icon at the lower left of the Ubuntu interface, then selecting the 'Settings' icon.
- Choose either the UQ or eduroam Wi-Fi network as required. Visitors from educational institutions external to UQ will need to select the eduroam option.
- Click Connect.
Step 2: Set additional settings
You will be required to configure a number of settings the first time you connect to a UQ Wi-Fi network. Adjust your settings as per below:
- Wi-Fi security: WPA & WPA2 Enterprise
- Anonymous identity: leave blank
- Domain: uq.edu.au
- CA certificate: None
- CA certificate password: leave blank
- No CA certificate is required: tick this box
- PEAP version: automatic
- Inner authentication: MSCHAPv2
- Username: enter your username followed by @uq.edu.au. For example:
For UQ staff: uqjblog3@uq.edu.au
For UQ students: s1234567@uq.edu.au
For visiting eduroam users: username@qut.edu.au - Password: enter the password associated with you username.
Once these settings have been updated, click Connect to connect your device to the Wi-Fi network.
Step 3: Accept the certificate
When you connect for the first time, you may be asked to verify a certificate. This will be named:
- 'uq.edu.au' if you’re connecting to UQ Wifi
- 'eduroam.uq.edu.au' if you’re connecting to eduroam.
Continue to accept the certificate.
To confirm that you have successfully connected to a Wi-Fi network, you should see the word 'connected' alongside the chosen Wi-Fi network.
UQ's Wifi certificates are renewed yearly, at which time you will be asked to verify a new certificate.
UQ students and staff have a choice of two wifi networks:
- UQ Wifi is the primary wireless network for students and staff at all campuses
- Eduroam is a wifi network available at participating universities and institutions, including UQ.
Wifi coverage maps
UQ has one of the largest university wifi networks in Australia, but signal strength can be affected by where you are on campus. Certain building materials, internal walls and your distance from a router can weaken your wifi connection.
Check the outdoor wifi coverage maps for guidance on where wifi is available:
- St Lucia wifi coverage map (PDF, 5.2 MB)
- Gatton wifi coverage map (PDF, 4.8 MB)
- Herston wifi coverage map (PDF, 3.7 MB).
These maps show coverage for the UQ Wifi, Eduroam and UQ Visitor networks.
