Each email message includes an email header, which contains valuable information. Collecting email headers is important when reporting a suspicious or potentially malicious email message that requires further investigation.
Here are instructions for collecting and sending email headers from various email clients.
 

Microsoft Outlook

  • Compose a new message
  • Use either the attach item button or the insert item from a pull down menu
  • Via the pop up menu, select the email message of interest and hit ok
  • Select who you want to send the message to and send

Mozilla Thunderbird

  • Compose a new message
  • From your list of received messages, select the message of interest by holding down the left mouse button over it
  • Drag the message of interest onto the window of the message being composed and drop
    • Note the message dragged and dropped will appear as an attached message
  • Select who you want to send the message to and send

Apple Mail

  • Compose a new message
  • From your list of received messages, select the message of interest by holding down the left mouse button over it
  • Drag the message of interest onto the window of the message being composed and drop
  • Select who you want to send the message to and send
